Applications

Acid-etched glass and mirror have been specified by architects in a tremendous variety of applications for decades – most notably to enhance and diffuse light. Walker applies an aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid solution to glass, producing an aesthetically pleasing, highly durable, smooth, uniform, even finish. The etched surface is easy to maintain and its appearance doesn’t change over time.

Endless Possibilities

Interior

Acid-etched glass and mirror are frequently used in interior applications. The breadth and depth of selection, quality and durability of Walker Textures® products provides interior designers with the product pallet to realize their most demanding and creative design goals.  Our acid-etched mirrors have found a compelling design niche in the wall covering space. Walker’s acid-etched glass is available in various thicknesses and is an excellent choice where privacy is required such as office enclosures, shower and bath enclosures, railings and so on. And just a reminder – acid-etched glass can be back-painted, laminated, etc. adding many unique additional design possibilities.

Exterior

The use of acid-etched glass in exterior applications has grown astronomically over the last decade. Any architectural concerns related to resistance to wear, scratching, staining, and strength have been put to bed over the past decade through exhaustive testing and in-situ results. In fact, our acid-etched glass finishes yield superior performance results compared to un-etched glass.  Our acid-etched products have been specified and installed for use in guardrails, spandrels and exterior building fins to name but a few applications. Walker’s innovative product team also recently launched a line of acid-etched products (the Aviprotek® line) to address the serious issue of bird collisions against windows. Today we are market leaders in this area sector.
